High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Ukiah Valley Medical Center is a 78-bed acute-care hospital serving 113,000 people in Mendocino and Lake Counties. In 1956, a group of local investors began to construct a hospital in Ukiah, California. This 43-bed facility was licensed as a general acute care hospital. In 1966, the hospital transitioned from a proprietary hospital to a nonprofit organization. In the mid-1970's, the need for expansion was apparent, however, there was no room at the current location. Also, bringing the hospital up to code would cost several hundred thousand dollars so plans were made to build a completely new facility at a new location. After the hospital joined Adventist Health on September 1, 1979, property was purchased for a new hospital and construction began on September 20, 1979. Patients and equipment were transferred to the new facility in March 1980. It was at this time that the hospital adopted Ukiah Adventist Hospital as its name.
