Autorenporträt
Born and raised in Greensboro, NC, I joined the Navy and spent four years as an enlisted machinist's mate on the USS Hammerhead (SSN-663) and on the USS Michigan (SSBN-727 (B)). At the end of my enlistment, I returned to college, participated in Navy ROTC, and graduated summa cum laude with a reserve commission from Florida A&M University. Following college, I went to the surface fleet, serving division officer tours on the USS Luce (DDG-38). I joined the Foreign Service in 1992. While assigned to Embassy London, I completed an M.A. at the School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS) at the University of London. I retired in 2013. Since junior high (maybe before?) I have written and loved reading poetry.
