In the world of mythology, virtually all cultures have a version of the Trickster; the African Anansi, the Egyptian Seth, the Hindi Narada and the Greek Prometheus. In China, he is Sun Wukong, among the Mayans, Maximon and Loki to the Norse. Among the indigenous Americans, he is Coyote. The Trickster is typically endowed with mystical powers and eccentric behaviors. He may prove beneficent, or he can be contrary, even treacherous. I've placed my version of the Trickster in contemporary America, where he inserts himself within the lives of four people, each dealing with his or her own dilemma; an abused housewife, an exploited prostitute, a sophomore facing sexual harassment from her peers and a family man who witnesses a murder. The Trickster introduces himself to each character as a positive force offering aid and guidance in the face of adversity. But will his peculiar methods prove beneficial or treacherous? In this fantastic world of intrigue and the unexpected, who can say?
