This volume contributes to an emerging field of Asian German Studies by bringing together cutting-edge scholarship from international scholars working in a variety of disciplines. Joanne Miyang Cho is professor and chair of History at William Paterson University of New Jersey. She is co-editor of Transcultural Encounters between Germany and India (2014), Germany and China (2014), Transnational Encounters between Germany and Japan (2016), Gendered Encounters between Germany and Asia (2017), and Transnational Encounters between Germany and Korea (2018). She has also published book chapters and articles on the politics of civilization as related to a number of German intellectuals and writers. She is co-editor of the Palgrave Series in Asian German Studies.
