Who, why and what for defend bullfighting today? Who, why and what for attack it today? What is behind both positions that seem irreconcilable? Without judgments or sentences, from an objective perspective, this essay offers an overview of who is involved in the discussion and how their interventions affect even those who are indifferent to the issue, approaching the question from philosophical, cultural, historical and economic perspectives and from science, reason, evidence and language, with special attention to the situation of bullfighting. The reader will find in this essay by the Mexican Fernanda Haro Cabrero the background of the controversy surrounding bullfighting, which is as old as bullfighting itself, its origin, development and current situation, the manipulation and deformation of language as to whether it is a cultural reality or just another example of animal torture and in connection with the culture of cancellation, self-censorship, veganism, animalism or moral superiority as inputs of profitable political capital, dismantling myths and collating evidence, something so necessary in the era of misinformation. La fiesta brava cannot be deciphered logically, but must preserve its essential mystery to move us. When it is analyzed, fragments remain, crumbs that do not do justice to the whole to which they once belonged. La faena is a proposal of a poetics of existence, it is an affirmation of life, where danger does not disappear, on the contrary, it shows itself and finds us well planted, ready to overcome fear and to expose ourselves for an instant of beauty.
