We must stand in full >Written by Stephanie Big Eagle, Thunderbird Rising is her memoir of Reconnection, Resilience, & Empowerment that is intended to serve as a survival guide through this time of chaos and confusion, from her own experience. It is also a reminder that no matter what you may be going through, you are not alone. Stephanie Big Eagle is a descendant of the Oceti Sakowin on her father's side, who is an enrolled member of the Ihanktonwan Dakota Oyate. They are also Santee Sioux, or Isanti Dakota, and Kul Wicasa Lakota. On her mother's side, she is of Nordic, Baltic, Celtic, and Indigenous heritage. She is featured in Season 2: Episode 2 of "Skindigenous," a thirteen-part documentary series exploring Indigenous tattooing traditions around the world, airing on PBS and APTN television networks. She graduated from Sacramento City College with an Associates of Science Degree in Biology in 2016. During the same year, she was educated in the Traditional technique of Handpoke Tattoo, and created her first tattoo design, the Standing Rock Tattoo. The founder of Thunderbird Rising Studios, she is an experienced Traditional Handpoke Tattoo artist, an Indigenous and environmental activist, a public speaker, a singer-songwriter, a Fancy Shawl Dancer, and a fashion model who tours nationally and internationally to share her art, knowledge, and presence.
