This book revolves around patriarchy in selected novels by Naguib Mahfouz. Mahfouz has explored the themes of patriarchy shared by all the Arab countries and to some extent the Eastern world. His concern with the values of fatherhood and masculinity and their companion, has been kept growing and has reached the degree of eye catching in The Cairo Trilogy and reaches its peak in Children of Gebelawi. His novels voice the aspiration of women against male-dominance and oppression. He sees that women in Arab world suffer more than any other women all over the globe. He tried his level best to free a man from his outlook for women and liberate a woman from looking at herself as an inferior creature. His mission is to inspire his countrymen into action and to rid them of patriarchy and to establish a just order. He urges woman to be active and to realize her inner strength which comes first from a realization of oppression and from the will to act against it. Living with dignity and justice is not the cause of women, men, or children, but it is a human issue in every time and place.
