JOHN HUGHES is a commercial pilot who has crop dusted from one end of the U.S. to the other, north to south and east to west, Hawaii to Florida and North Dakota to Texas. He recently retired as a college instructor, and he also spent a number of years writing for newspaper, radio and television. As a college student, he participated in the University of Washington's writing program.
