Origen of Alexandria was one of the towering figures of early Christianity. He was the first writer who might be called a "systematic theologian". His contributions to biblical exegesis and interpretation, emerging Christian doctrines, and the apologetic defence of Christianity put him in the first tier of early Christian thinkers.
