Sustainability has become one of the most important challenges of today s society. Companies feel the external pressure to include principles of sustainable development in their business and often also have a strong internal drive to improve on sustainability. The activities of many companies are organized by projects, but in project management literature, the concept of sustainability has not been recognized yet. Projects are a main part of business, and therefore, it is evident that when the strategy of a company is to act sustainable, this has to result in actions in their projects. In this research, a new framework was designed: The Sustainable Footprint Methodology . This framework analyzes and determines several relevant social, environmental and economical impacts of a project for different phases of project management. The new framework was successfully used for TAQA s Bergermeer Gas Storage project.
