Recommendations are provided for future application both in China and elsewhere and also a range of ways suggested for how the framework could be adapted to other types of ports and locations.

Dr Xuemuge Wang is Lecturer in Shipping and Port Management at Shenzhen Polytechnic in the Peoples' Republic of China. Professor Michael Roe holds the Chair of Maritime and Logistics Governance at the University of Plymouth. Shaofeng Liu is Professor of Operations Management and Decision Making at Plymouth Business School at the University of Plymouth.
