Wolf Larsen, a murderous captain of a schooner, rescues a literary critic Humphrey Van Weyden after a collision in San Francisco Bay. Larsen forces Van Weyden into a role as a cabin boy who must learn to defend himself from a brutal crew. Over time, Van Weyden becomes hardened. Larsen survives several mutiny attempts. Maud Brewster, a poet, is rescued by Larsen and becomes involved in a love triangle with Larsen and Van Weyden. Jack London was a prolific writer of novels, short stories, non-fiction, autobiographical memoirs, plays and more. Some of his most famous works include The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea Wolf, The Iron Heel, Martin Eden and The People of the Abyss.
