Reflecting the increased research interest in the rhizosphere process, several subjects discussed in the previous edition of The Rhizosphere: Biochemistry and Organic Substances at the Soil-Plant Interface have greatly developed in recent years. Presenting new findings and updating existing material, the book describes the complex biochemical interactions that occur at the soil-plant interface. The second edition includes six new chapters on topics such as the role of nutrient availability in regulating root morphology, gene flow in the rhizosphere, biochemistry of the rhizobium-legume symbiosis, root membrane activities, microbial manipulation, and plant-insect communication.
Revised and expanded, the second edition provides a comprehensive and updated overview of the most recent advances in understanding the complex biochemistry of the soil-microbe-plant interaction. New topics include the role of nutrient availability in regulating root morphology and architecture, the involvement of root membrane activities in determining and responding to nutritional conditions, molecular signals between root-root and root-microbe, and gene flow and the evolution of rhizosphere organisms and their coevolution with plants. All chapters are written from a molecular approach which contributes to a better understanding of the biochemical processes occurring at the plant-soil interface.
