The low levels of education among the women, which is also positively correlated with poverty was found to be among the factors responsible for vulnerability to HIV infection among women. The research recommends that the government should initiate income generating programmes for women so that they can be emancipated from poverty.

The author is a psychologist with vast experience in child psychology, HIV/AIDS issues and University teaching. The co-author Mr Ezekiel Mhetu, is a recent psychology graduate with a passion in HIV/AIDS issues.
