As you are reading my story, I want you to think about the cover of this book as a white canvas - a canvas for your life. It's up to every one of us what we put on this canvas. What do we want to remember? Is it the time your boss screamed at you in front of a crowded room? Or, is it seeing your kids' smiles when you walk through your front door? In 1974, Tamar Lee was born in a toilet to a 64-year-old father - a Jewish holocaust survivor; and a 34-year-old, German, Christian alcoholic mother with a mental illness. In a dramatic tale of abuse, neglect, rape, and stark anti-Semitism in 1970s Germany, Lee learned very early to always hope for a better day, tomorrow. Despite being surrounded by death and turmoil, she survived, navigating through her world with determination, perseverance, and pride.
