Autorenporträt
Anatole France (eigentlich Jacques François Anatole Thibault) wurde am 16. April 1844 als Sohn eines Buchhändlers in Paris geboren. Nach einer guten Schulbildung am Pariser Collège Stanislas wurde er zunächst Bibliothekar, dann Verlagslektor, betätigte sich aber früh auch als Literaturkritiker, Lyriker, Dramatiker und vor allem Romancier. Nachdem er schon 1896 in die Académie gewählt worden war, erhält France 1921 den Literatur-Nobelpreis. Er starb am 12. Oktober 1924 in Gut-la-Béchellerie, Indre-et-Loire.
