The problems of energetics are very important to most countries of the world. The International Energy Agency anticipated that in 2030 the demand for energy in the EU would increase by 15% in comparison to the year 2000. Therefore a gradual transition to the low-carbon economy is being planned. An important role is given to the development of renewable energy resources. A national program "Bio fuel" is active in Latvia. The most promising directions for electric energy industry development in Latvia and for creation of energy security potential of the country is construction of the hydroelectric and heat power plants using the own energy resources. The direction of wind power energetics development is recognised as important. The development of the direction based on the construction of the thermal power plants working on gas imported from outside of the EU, is considered as unpromising. The present research may be used as a training and methodological material with examples of calculations for teaching the fundamentals of econometric calculations in management decision making to postgraduate students majoring in economics.
