The Hutus have noticed that the Nandes are settled in Goma, Rutshuru and even Nyiragongo without being able to access the territory of Lubero and Beni. This has resulted in frustration and mistrust on both sides.

Mr Paluku Live-Rive Kyaka, the author, was born in Kalungu on 1 June 1944. A former magistrate at the Court of Appeal, he has practiced as a lawyer at the Court of Appeal of Goma since 1980 and before the ICC since 2006. His long career in the field of land and social conflicts has led him to reflect on the issue.
