Alan Krell was until recently associate professor of art history at the University of New South Wales School of Art & Design, Sydney, where he worked for over two decades. He now lives in London. His books include Manet and the Painters of Contemporary Life, The Devil's Rope: A Cultural History of Barbed Wire, and Burning Issues: Fire in Art and the Social Imagination, the latter two also published by Reaktion Books.
