An enriching and accessible academic exercise for those interested in understanding globalisation processes. 'The Maya in transition: Is the Maquila Industry in Rural Yucatan a Sustainable Development alternative?' offers a contemporary snapshot of what is going on in (and around) a small size city of the Yucatan peninsula. From regional economic policy to environmental and social issues, this book provides empirical evidence to judge critically upon the sustainability of export-led development strategies.
