Cameroon has a strong geological potential for a number of solid mineral resources that, if well managed, could support economic growth. Despite its geological wealth, the extractive industry in general and solid mineral resources in particular is yet to play a major role in Cameroon's economic development. A study on the state of sustainable development and environmental challenges in Cameroon's solid mineral sector permits the identification of key points for improvement in order to position the country towards achieving a sustainable mining industry in the future. Mining has a substantial influence on several parts of society, in part by providing economic and social development, but also through negative environmental and social-cultural problems connected to its operation. This work therefore appreciates the legal paradigms in Cameroon's extractive industry with focus on solid minerals and other aspects.
