Autorenporträt
Rabai al-Madhoun was born in the city of al-Majdal-Askalan (Ashkelon) in Palestine in 1945. His family fled in 19478 and settled in Khan Younis, Gaza. He studied at Alexandria University in Egypt and went on to work in Palestinian politics, moving between Amman, Damascus, Baghdad, Beirut and Moscow. Jailed and tortured in Syria in 1976, he moved to Beirut to work in journalism. He eventually moved to London, where he has lived for over twenty years, and worked for some of the most prominent Arab-language newspapers. He is currently an editor at the leading Arabic daily, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat. His other works include a collection of short stories, an autobiographical novel and an academic study.
