Circe Maia is a Uruguayan poet, essayist, translator, and teacher of philosophy. She is the author of eleven poetry collections, including Superficies, Breve Sol, Dualidades and La Pesadora de perlas, and the novel A Trip to Salto (Un Viaje a Salto). She has received the Medalla Delmira Agustini, 2013; an Homenaje de la Academia Nacional de Letras, 2009; the Premio Bartolomé Hidalgo, 2010 and the Premio Nacional de Poesía de Uruguay, 2007. Jesse Lee Kercheval is a poet, novelist, memoirist, and translator. She is the author of thirteen books in Spanish and English including the poetry collections Extranjera; Cinema Muto, and Dog Angel, and the novel My Life as a Silent Movie. Kercheval is the editor of the forthcoming América invertida: An Anthology of Younger Uruguayan Poets. She is the Zona Gale Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
