The main aim of the initial chapter of this work is to acquaint with genesis and development of the genre of Lied in the German speaking countries of the period of romanticism. The main and central part of book is a vocal work of significant German composer Richard Strauss, vocal-technical and vocal-interpretational analyses of chosen songs for soprano. The book is divided into three chapters. First chapter is divided into two subheadings and elaborates a historical context of the developing of German Lied from the beginning till the period of romanticism. The second chapter gives attention to life, to signs of musical language and to dividing of Strauss vocal works. The third chapter represent chosen Strauss¿s songs by using vocal-interpretational analyses.

Dr. Maria Detvaj Sedlarova is a vocal pedagogue at the Music department of Catholic University in Ruzomberok, Slovakia. As an opera singer she performed in Slovakia, Poland, Czech republic, Italy and France. She is an author of script on the theme German Song Works of a Period of Romanticism in Works of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf and Strauss.
