The I in Running is Orinthal Striggles's recounting of his running life and the effect it has had on his development as a person, as a family man, as a professional, and as a student of human nature. Though stymied by outside influences on his participation in organized athletics, he began running as early as age 6. That personally disciplined lifestyle has carried him through the ups and downs of early disappointments and on to success in running, in family relationships, in his counseling career, in his online coaching, and in other personal relationships. He has not spared himself in sharing the story of what he terms his "short" life. It actually appears that he means the book as a manual for the young runner who needs encouragement to make the lifetime commitment required for success.
Autorenporträt
Orinthal "Coach O" Striggles is a long time distance runner who grew up in rural Girard, Georgia. Along the way he found the inspiration to run throughout high school and college, before becoming a serial road runner. While attending Screven County High School in Sylvania, Georgia, Orinthal was a standout athlete in cross country, wrestling, and track. Having little distance coaching in high school, his hunger to get better never stopped growing. Navigating life's ups and downs, Orinthal found himself at Benedict College in Columbia, SC, where he furthered his education and ran cross country and track. Orinthal has completed over 100 marathons and has run an average of 55 road races a year since 2004. The 2004 and 2009 USATF South Carolina Long Distance runner of the year is the proud father of 5 children: Ryan, Sam, Zebulon, Moriah, & Orin; and has a love for coaching distance running. Orinthal maintains freedom from major injury by staying physically, emotionally, and psychologically in tune with his entire being. "You are worth getting to know, so enjoy the process of getting to know you" is one of his favorite sayings. Orinthal holds a masters in Rehab Counseling and works as a mental health counselor in Columbia.
