Ralph Waldo Trine (1866-1958) was an American writer, philosopher, and advocate for animal welfare. Born in Mount Morris, Illinois, Trine was influenced by the idealistic philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson and the Christian socialism of George Herron. He obtained his education at Knox College and Johns Hopkins University, developing a diverse spiritual outlook blending Buddhism, pantheism, spiritualism, transcendentalism, Christian socialism, and neo-Vedanta philosophy. Trine is best known for his influential book, "In Tune with the Infinite," which became a cornerstone of the New Thought movement. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Trine's writings focused on spiritual principles rather than financial success, earning him a reputation as an optimistic and sincere author. Translated into 20 languages, the book continues to inspire readers worldwide. In addition to his literary contributions, Trine was a passionate advocate for animal welfare. He embraced a vegetarian lifestyle for ethical reasons and wrote "Every Living Creature," promoting kindness to animals and advocating for a vegetarian diet. Trine served as the director of the American Humane Education Society and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
