The people of planet Virana were all but wiped out by war and natural disasters. Then it happened. A vicious heat wave threatened all remaining life. Their half of the computer was to be taken to where the circuit boards were being made. It could then be started and used immediately. It would not be so easy. An unknown alien's shadow monster that cast only one shadow remotely possessed head overseer Mortimus Lowey and other friends forcing them to turn against Johny and Miri. Their friendships, personal beliefs and what they thought were immutable scientific truths were all about to be severely tested. The race across the Castleways with half the computer to save themselves and the entire planet was underway.
