The Flag that Flew Up is a rhyming children's tale about three children who discover a flag that is flying straight up. Soon after this discovery, the children realize the flag is unhappy and trapped by circumstances beyond its control. The children realize that they can help the flag by blocking the wind that was forcing it to fly up. When they return later, they realize that the flag now gets no wind at all. The children enlist the help of a police officer to have construction tarps removed so that some wind will reach the flag. But this results in too much wind and the flag crashes to the ground. The children soon enlist the mayor and the community to help them. Finally, the flag is moved to a new home in a park where it is able to fly like other flags. The children realize that with perseverance they were able to help the flag overcome his disability and resume more fulfilling existence.
