The monograph focusses upon the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk and its immediate consequences for the fate of Ukraine. Its origin is reviewed against the general historical background consisting of German-Ukrainian encounters and the development of the Ukrainian national rebirth that culminated in the events of 1917-1918.
