Salisbury is a retired historian from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, U.S.A., and has written many books on history and religion, including the award-winning Perpetua's Passion, Rome's Christian Empress, and The Beast Within: Animals in the Middle Ages. Salisbury also lectures for educational networks including Wondrium, the History Channel and PBS.
