The following book 'The Effects of Acute Beetroot Consumption on Intermittent Testing' explores the understudied area of the beetroot juice and the effects of nitrates on the bodies performance in an intermittent sporting scenario. Recent studies have found that beetroot juice (BR), a dietary nitrate (NO3 -), has a positive effect on endurance, cardiovascular efficiency and glucose uptake in the muscles to delay the onset of lactic acid production. Despite previous studies delving into the effects of BR on generic intermittent testing such as the YoYo test, researchers have failed to investigate this dietary NO3- in a sport specific intermittent setting. Therefore this paper investigates the physiological and psychological effects of acute beetroot consumption on intermittent performance, to enable future applications on popular sports such as Football and Rugby that are currently dominating the sporting world.
