Emphasis was given to the resource and institutional economics of soil conservation. The regional decision-support system MODAM (multi-objective decision support tool for agro-ecosystem management) was applied for the assessment of economic and environmental impacts of different policy options. The inclusion of transaction costs in this study helped to expand its scope of policy analysis.

Johannes Schuler (Dr. sc. agr.) studied agricultural economics atthe Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel, Germany and earnedhis research doctorate at the Hohenheim University, Germany in2008. He is presently a researcher at the Leibniz-Centre forAgricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e.V. Müncheberg focussingon farm and resource economics.
