The term coordination is omnipresent and people usually have a very good understand what it actually stands for. It is difficult to explain explicitly, though. We recognise, for instance, if something is organised or coordinated in an ineffective way by observing the negative effects such as spending unnecessary extra resources - such as time or money. If we manage to tackle problems by focusing on coordination we might be able to resolve problems in a more efficient way. Manfred Bortenschlager is post-doc researcher at the Mobile andWeb-based Information Systems Group of Salzburg Research. Hisresearch interests are focused on coordination models andmechanisms for pervasive information systems applied totelecooperative applications. He is involved in several (applied)research projects.
