James Russell Miller was a popular Christian author, Editorial Superintendent of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, and pastor of several churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois. He was the General field Agent for the United States Christian Commission, an organization established by the Young Men's Christian Association after the First Battle of Bull Run. Miller authored nearly 100 books and articles.

J. R. Miller is Professor of Applied Theology & Leadership and Dean of Online Learning at Southern California Seminary. Joe is a coach to church planters and planting his second elder-led church. He has authored multiple books on church history, biblical theology, leadership, and a devotional for building teams. Joe and his wife Suzanne enjoy the sun and surf with their three sons in San Diego, California.
