But its selective application both ignored the institutionalized poverty of Africa and Asia and embraced the dictator-imposed poverty of Cuba. Such hypocrisy created the allies that the nun needed to prevail in this religious battlefield: a Polish Pope, a disillusioned young Jesuit, and a Salvadoran officer who had graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The Black Crusade is fiction based on historical fact that takes the reader from mid-20th Century Europe to the last battle of the Cold War in El Salvador, Central America the week after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

Armando Interiano es ingeniero eléctrico con patentes a su nombre, un traductor de múltiples idiomas, y un músico compositor publicado que es un graduado de la Academia Militar de los Estados Unidos en West Point y de la Universidad de Rice en Houston, Texas. Cumplió con su servicio militar en El Salvador, y se enorgullece de su papel durante la Reforma Agraria de 1980, en la cual el ejército salvadoreño cumplió una función esencial para la transferencia de propiedades de los grandes terratenientes a los campesinos, actuando bajo órdenes de civiles. Realmente un hito histórico en la vida nacional. También se enorgullece de haber contribuido a convertir a El Salvador en una legítima democracia, rompiendo de una vez por todas con el sistema militar-feudal legado de los españoles. Ha escrito numerosos artículos publicados en medios físicos y electrónicos, acerca de la necesidad por una revolución educativa en todas partes, particularmente en Centroamérica.
