From blackouts in WWII to rocking out to Bill Haley and the Comets, Ocean City native Jim Jeffries recalls his "bay rat" boyhood on the Jersey Shore with affection, humor, and gratitude. This collection of vignettes from Jim's childhood and teen years is packed with photos and populated by a cast of characters that might just spark your own memories of the people and events that helped form who you are today. So dangle your feet off the dock, dip your toes in the ocean, and journey to the days when the icebox gave way to the refrigerator, the radio to the television, and the town we thought we'd never leave took root in our hearts no matter where our destiny led us.
Autorenporträt
Jim Jeffries' community-minded spirit extends beyond his beloved birthplace of Ocean City. A longtime resident of the Asbury Park area of New Jersey, Jim was for many years active in his local Chamber of Commerce, Board of Education, and The Rotary Club. He also served as President of the New Jersey Jaycees. Along with these grown-up responsibilities, Jim is also, in many ways, still the kid he was in the 1940s and 50s. Voted "Class Wit" in high school, he has maintained that reputation by doing a number of roasts for friends and others at private events. He even got paid for one of them. Today, having retired from a long and successful career as a State Farm Insurance agent, Jim happily writes, golfs, and plans the next adventure. He and his wife, Kathy, who will forever be the girl he married all those years ago, split their time between Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and their home in New Jersey.
