Holland McTyeire Thompson (July 30, 1873 - October 21, 1940) was a New South historian and author. Thompson was born in North Carolina's Randolph County. He got a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina. Thompson taught at Concord High School in Concord, North Carolina, from 1895 to 1899, and while there, he authored an essay about the transformation of southern culture from a rural agricultural to a textile/manufacturing way of life that he witnessed.
