Thunder was born on an organic farm and this book is about her first year of life and the many adventures she experiences. Thunder learns a great deal about life through her mother "Lucy" and the resident farmers Grandpa Norm and Grandma Ellen. Thunder survives a wild goose attack and she learns to herd and protect the many farm animals. Thunder and her mother, another border collie explore wild forest and pond areas, meeting wild bees, wild ducks, beavers, and other animals. This book is appropriate for children of all ages. The Author, Ellen O'Shea is an accomplished author of children's books and has received awards for her illustrations and her book "Piper and the Red Boat".

The author is a naturalist, watercolorist, accomplished illustrator and has been writing and illustrating children's books since her youth. Ellen writes about the natural world and gardening for multiple publications and is a botanical illustrator. She is an organic farmer and lives on a farm on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State.
