Autor

Arthur Conan Doyle wurde am 22. Mai 1859 in Edinburgh/Schottland geboren und starb am 7. Juli 1930 in Crowborough/Sussex. Er entstammte einer aristokratischen irischen Familie. Nach einem Studium der Medizin an der Universität Edinburgh erwarb er 1885 den Doktortitel. Bereits während des Studium hatte er mit dem Schreiben begonnen, um seinen Lebensunterhalt zu finanzieren. Die Praxis, die er anschließend in Southsea/Portsmouth eröffnete, lief nicht gut, so dass er seine schriftstellerische Tätigkeit fortsetzt. Im Jahr 1887 erschien seine erste Geschichte um den Detektiv Sherlock Holmes und dessen Freund Dr. Watson, der ihm zu Weltruhm verhelfen sollte, "Eine Studie in Scarlett".
