Tarsus or Jerusalem deals with the youth of Saint Paul. It has generally been held that the Apostle of the Gentiles grew up in Tarsus, and that this pagan city had a tremendous influence upon his thinking. Professor van Unnik, however, demonstrates that the only text which gives definite information about Paul's early youth points in an altogether different direction, namely, to Jerusalem. Willem Cornelis van Unnik studied theology in Leyden and for two terms in Woodbrooke (Selly Oak, Birmingham) (1928--1935); doctor of Theology, Leyden (1937); thesis: Nestorian Questions on the Administration of the Eucharist ; minister of the Dutch Reformed Church (1936--1946) and teacher of religion in a secondary school in the Hague (1942--1945); professor of New Testament in the University of Utrecht (From 1946); member of the Royal Dutch Academy (1951) .
