Subversive Voices Breaking Silences: Questions of identity and otherness in English language literatures presents parts of studies developed by young researchers from various places in Brazil in the past few years. The articles in this book show different views on questions of gender, otherness and ethnicity bringing together contributions from different theoretical traditions including Literary Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Translation Studies and Social Studies. Ranging from a post-colonial reading of one of the most well-known of Shakespeare s plays to the contemporary works of Edwige Danticat and Toni Morrison, this book highlights the role of literature as a way of breaking silences, subverting patriarchal and hegemonic discourses and contesting Official History.
