The study was carried out under the title of "Status and Distribution of Macronutrients (NPK) In Soils of Hamelmalo Area". The study was conducted in Zoba Anseba Sub Zoba Hamelmalo, which is located in Keren - Nakfa road 12 km North away from Keren city. The study was conducted in two adjacent sites i.e. Hamelmalo Agricultural College campus (HAC) and Basheri watershed area (BWA). The objectives of the study were to determine the macro-nutrients (NPK) status of soils under different land uses in Hamelmalo area, and the vertical distribution of macro-nutrients (NPK) in some selected profiles and their relationship with physco-chemical properties of soils. Global Positioning System (GPS) based soil samples were collected randomly from different land use systems i.e. cultivated (Cereal and Horticultural) and non-cultivated open wood land (OWL) areas. On an average 30 samples were collected from each block and one composite sample was prepared for each block. Surface soil samples which were collected from 0-20 cm depths in a radial sampling scheme using an auger.
