Charley James Witt was born to a couple named Jesse Elye Witt Sr. of Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Inez Pettis of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Charley was number fifteen of sixteen children in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He studied elementary at Wheatley Grade School. He then spent two years at Saddle Junior High and three years at Manual Training High. Then, he was drafted into the army. After returning from Vietnam, he got his high school diploma at Saint Mary's High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While in the army, he became interested in the law. After finishing St. Mary's High School, Charley sought college and ended up at Oklahoma State University after getting out of the army. As Charley began studying the law books, he was always led to the Bible. He'd put the Bible down, go back to the law book, and find that, in some ways, he had to go back to the Bible. Since he was a child, he was always interested in Jesus. At that point, he began to pray. Charley would sit and pray, then he would go back to the law books, and if he had to go back to the Bible, he would put the law books down!
