My name is Sherrie Egans Martin. I am from Hobbs, New Mexico! Shout out to my home folks! I penned my book under Sherrie Egans Carpenter, which is titled, "Soldier Girl's Trail of Blood". I've included a copy of this letter on page 88 of my book. You are so trapped in that cage, until you will try to reach out to someone, anyone with influence that can help you survive in that concrete jungle. My book was published in 2011 after my release from prison. This is a good read because I dared to be honest and own my truths which is the first step to recovery. I'm opening myself up to all the stigma associated with addicts, and the crack-head jokes etc. because I feel that my story can gives others hope to keep battling this disease of addiction. No, "Ain't going back and forth with you", on whether you feel it's a disease or a choice. My primary goal in telling my story is to reach out to the addict still suffering, and their families. The Disease of addiction is an ongoing battle, and relapse is a part of recovery. If you have a relapse don't wallow in it! Get back up again and back on the straight path! I'm thriving and well, but it's a daily struggle. Crack-cocaine addicts can recover!

Sherrie Egans Carpenter was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Hobbs, New Mexico from the age of four. Her primary hobby is jogging and weight lifting. She is a Motivational Speaker. She speaks at Homeless Summits, Substance-Abuse Rehabilitation Treatment centers, and churches to tell her story. She is willing to go wherever she feels her story can help someone to accept this disease of addiction and are prepared to go to war, for it is a life-time struggle. She accepts invitations to go back behind the prison walls and try to bring hope to the forgotten society of incarcerated people. She has a passion to bring hope to incarcerated people. She reserves a special place in her heart for incarcerated veterans. "They served their country regardless of what their crime, and no one can take that away from them"! She is the mother of two children, She has two grandsons and two grand-daughters' She graduated from ICDC College with an Associate Degree in Alcohol and Drug Counseling December 2014.
