This book provides an overview of the institutional and intellectual development of sociology in Brazil from the early 1900s to the present day; through military coups, dictatorships and democracies. Hugo Neri is a researcher at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and a visiting lecturer at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. His current research focuses on social theory, sociology of intellectuals, common sense, and risk.
