This book addresses the findings of the research conducted on the socio-legal challenges faced by the coal mines located in the municipality of Samacá, Boyacá-Colombia, within the framework of the energy transition. By way of introduction, it is stated that the coal sector of this municipality is not prepared to be part of this process due to multiple conditions for them to adapt and comply with the required regulatory and socio-environmental changes, since the requirements set forth by the law exceed the existing resources in these mines to carry out the necessary adaptations in the form of production. On the other hand, despite the fact that the State has recently advanced in the creation of different lines such as CONPES 4075 of 2022 and other intersectoral strategies, there are still transversal gaps that leave the working population, the operability of the internal processes of the mine, and the ecological and social system where it is located in uncertainty.
