This book examines the kinds of arrangements informal sector operatives in Accra make in order to secure their future. Focusing on artisans in the Accra Metropolitan Area, the book looked at remunerations that accrue from such occupations and how they are used for this preparation. Respondents resorted to saving in the banks, ensuring that they supported their wives financially to establish businesses so that they can fall back on such businesses when they retire, and raising their children well so that they, in turn, support them when they retire. Among other things, the book recommends that the informal sector should be targeted for intensive public education on the work of SSNIT and its role in helping workers prepare for their retirement.
