In the last decade there has been a huge growth of using Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs). These applications allow users to Check-In at different places sharing their location on the move. It is believed that LBSNs can be a huge benefit in education. These social networks bring students and educators together through easy collaboration. This book discusses how LBSNs can be used in higher educational environments. The first part of this book deals with analyzing LBSNs, features and concerns of such systems as well as state of the art. The second part analyzes how using a LBSN would benefit users and how this method would increase students' motivation and participation in learning environments. It is considered how awarding users with Digital Badges will make it possible to evaluate and recognize skills and competencies which are not normally evaluated. The later chapters of this book deal with providing a prototypical design of a LBSN application for mobile phones.
