The proceedings of the contributions presented at the 7th European Photovo1taic Conference in Sevilla, Spain are presented here. The conference was held in the ci ty of Sevi11 a, exp 1 i cit 1y to welcome Spai nand Portugal into the European Communi ty. Both countri es provi de excellent condi ti ons for the app 1 i cati on of photovo1taics and have made significant contributions to solar energy research. The province of And-a1usia, of which Sevilla is the capital, represents the biggest market for smale scale photovo1taic systems today. An excursion organized by the local committee to a village with many photovo1taic farm houses provided an opportunity for direct contacts with users of photovo1taics. The Conference was attended by 520 people from 39 nations. The biggest contin gent this time came from the Federal Republic of Germany followed by France ~nd Spai n. Thi s attendence was hi gher than at the previ ous meeti ngs and suggests that there is new optimism about photovo1taics. Altogether there were 234 presentations, 46 oral papers, 14 invited papers and 174 posters. They covered all aspects of photovo1taic, materials research, cell techno logy for thi n fil m and bu1 k crysta 11 i ne materi a 1 s as well as systems technology including tests and trials. Significant progress was achieved in all fields.
