Ed Semler retired from the United States Coast Guard in December of 2007 with over 25 years of military service in both the United States Army and United States Coast Guard. In the Army he was an enlisted combat bridge crewman (12C) and was honorably discharged as a specialist four (E-4). While in the Coast Guard he was an enlisted machinery technician (MK) obtaining the rank of master chief petty officer (E-9), was commissioned as an officer, and retired as a lieutenant (O-3E). After his military career Ed dabbled in teaching at a Vocational Technical School and was a self-employed plumber for several years. As a pass time he enjoys reading, writing, and is a proud member of the Schulenburg, Texas chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. His other publications are; "Around The World," which details his 25 years of service as an officer and enlisted man in the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. "U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sherman (WHEC-720) Circumnavigation Deployment 2001," which details the Sherman's historic circumnavigation of the globe and deployment to the Persian Gulf in 2001. "The Three Gunsallus Brothers" which details three brothers fighting for the state of Pennsylvania during the Civil War. "Thoughts On Being A Chief Petty Officer" which details managing the position of Chief Petty Officer in Coast Guard and Navy.
